It's been a while since I've been on, but wow, what a few months it's been!
Here is my truck after the snowstorm this weekend. I did dig it out at about 2 o'clock to go to the grocery store.
This weekend gave me some time to read. I've been so busy at work, I haven't had much energy to read for growth. So, I made a big dent in the book "Encouraging the Heart" by James Kouzes and Barry Posner.
In the words of my friend Chet Scott "Don't miss this, this is HUGE".
According to this book (which isn't sappy), people want the following:
- Clear Standards
- High Expectations of themselves and those around them
- Someone who pays attention
- Personalized Recognition
- Story Tellers
- Public Celebrations of success
- Someone who sets the example (walk that walk)
So, as I finish this quick blog, I'm thinking of a fellow builder. We're challenged with bringing fun to our work team. I know we can do it. It will take time. Remember, the Blue Angels flight team changes every year. Their job is life or death, ours is not.
Oh, and yes, I miss reading for pleasure and growth. Time to slow down a little.
